Unalloyed bright case-hardening steel according to DIN EN 10277, in drawn or peeled version.
Use for general applications in vehicle and machine parts such as geared parts, pins, rods, spacers, axles where a rather low strength but high toughness is required. The lead content leads to a very good machinability of C15Pb. Due to its low hardness and strength, this material can be cold formed to a certain extent. Case hardening of the components, in which carbon is introduced into the edge area, makes it possible to achieve a relatively hard and wear-resistant surface with a tough core.
Due to the low carbon content, C15Pb is very easy to weld. The bright version ensures properties defined in the corresponding DIN standards and a scale-free surface with corresponding tolerance fields. This means that the steel can also be used without further surface treatment or processed in turning machines. It is important to note that the lead alloy does not comply with the European REACH regulation.
